I'm a Master Gardener Volunteer Because...

"I love gardening, I love learning, and I love being around people." — May May Bowers, Sumter County

April is National Volunteer Month, and we're celebrating our Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs) and all they do for the love of their craft and their community.

We asked MGVs around the state why they do all the wonderful work they do. Here's an answer from one of our Sumter County Master Gardener Volunteers, May May Bowers. She also enjoys working in the demonstration garden, not only to maintain it, but to learn "what works, and what doesn't work."

Volunteer Month recognizes and promotes the spirit of service, and raises awareness about how volunteering changes lives and strengthens communities.
