Caribbean Fruit Fly

The Caribbean fruit fly is mainly found in South Florida. These pests lay their eggs on very ripe fruit, and the resulting larvae burrow in to feed, leaving the fruit inedible. Homeowners might notice these large flies buzzing around their loquat or guava fruit trees. There’s no effective chemical control; protect fruit by picking them as soon as possible or placing a paper bag over the fruit as it’s maturing.
