Using Your Extension Office

The Florida Cooperative Extension Service, also known as Florida Extension, is the government's way of bringing helpful university research to the public.

Every county in the state has a Extension office that's staffed with experts who specialize in areas like family, youth, and community sciences, 4-H, and consumer horticulture (better known as "gardening").

You can visit your county Extension office for help with getting a soil test, choosing Florida-Friendly plants, or making a rain barrel. You can also bring in samples of sick or unknown plants for identification.

University-trained Master Gardener volunteers also respond to gardening questions that come in over the phone or through e-mail.
They can help you understand how to start a vegetable garden, manage insect pests responsibly, or work toward other garden goals.
