Put one of the world's most popular building materials to work in your garden by making bamboo teepees.
These easy-to-build structures add a vertical element to any garden. They make great trellises for vining plants, including vegetables like pole beans, cucumbers, and squash.
Gather five to seven canes of bamboo that have been cut and dried. They can be painted, stained, or left as is. Secure the ends of the bamboo together with wire or twine, tying each stalk individually and then together.
Finally, set up the teepee in your landscape and add plants. For added stability, push the end of each cane a few inches into the soil.
Just beware—small kids in your neighborhood may decide to turn your bamboo teepee into their own little fort!
