Healthy Holiday Swaps Text

At the end of 2020, along with UF/IFAS Extension Agent Andrea Nikoai, IFAS Communication Services produced an infographic with food swap options. The infographic illustrates several side dishes and desserts that you would normally see on your holiday meal menu and it provides ideas that not only are healthier, but satisfying as well.

Instead of...

Mashed potatoes? Try mashed cauliflower with parmesan cheese.

Green Bean Casserole? Try sautéed green beans with toasted walnuts.

Squash Casserole? Try roasted or baked acorn squash and apples.

Mac and Cheese? Try adding pureed carrots, butternut squash, and/or cauliflower.

Creamy Vegetable Casserole? Try roasted Brussels sprouts with balsamic vinegar.

Sweet Potato Fluff? Try sweet potato, egg, cinnamon, and vanilla, topped with toasted pecans and a little brown sugar.

Sausage Stuffing? Try whole grain bread, onions, celery, cubed butternut squash or kale.

Chocolate Cake? Try Greek yogurt chocolate mousse.

Pecan Pie? Try a rustic pear tart with a whole grain crust.

Apple Pie? Try baked apples stuffed with cranberries and nuts.
