Annual:<\/strong> A plant which completes its life cycle in one season. In Florida, annuals are typically referred to as warm-season or cool-season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apical: <\/strong>At the tip, as in the end of a shoot or root.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

B<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Basal: <\/strong>Leaves that grow at the base of the stem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Berry Type Fruit:<\/strong> A simple, pulpy fruit such as blueberry, grape or tomato. See Figure 2 .

Bloom: <\/strong>A waxy, white covering on leaves or fruit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bract:<\/strong> A more or less modified leaf situated near a flower. Ex: The brightly colored “petals” of a poinsettia are actually bracts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Branchlets: <\/strong>Small branches growing from a larger branch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bud:<\/strong> Much-condensed, undeveloped shoot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bulb: <\/strong>A short, modified stem; the thickened leaves store reserved food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bulbous:<\/strong> Like a bulb; producing a bulb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C<\/a><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Catkins: <\/strong>A dense spike or raceme without petals having only male or female reproductive parts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Caudex:<\/strong> The ligneous (woody) base of a perennial plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Columnar: <\/strong>Slender, upright form<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Compound Leaf:<\/strong> A leaf composed of two or more leaflets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Coniferous:<\/strong> Cone-bearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cordate Leaf Shape:<\/strong> Heart-shaped. See Figure 4 .

Corm:<\/strong> A thickened, vertical, solid underground stem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cormels:  <\/strong>Small corms that arise from a larger corm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corolla:<\/strong> Collective name for petals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Corymb Flower Arrangement:<\/strong> An inflorescence consisting of a central rachis bearing a number of branched pedicels; the lower ones much longer than the upper, resulting in a flat or more or less round-topped cluster. See Figure 5.

Deciduous:<\/strong> A plant which sheds its leaves during certain seasons of the year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dioecious:<\/strong> Male and female flowers are borne on different plants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drupe Fruit Type:<\/strong> A fruit with four major parts: a thin skin, a fleshy body, a hard stone, and an inner seed. Ex: Peach. See Figure 8.
