Florida Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs) assist UF/IFAS Extension agents by providing research-based, horticultural education to Florida residents.

In 2023, 3,359 volunteers gave 359,600 hours of their time in 58 Florida counties. This equates to nearly $10 million provided to Florida’s economy.

Master Gardener Volunteers typically assist in a variety of projects, including:

  • Answering questions at plant help desks
  • Giving landscaping and gardening workshops at public libraries
  • Building demonstration gardens
  • Assisting with community gardens
  • Teaching youth programs and working with school gardens

In 2023, MGVs served 189,000 Florida citizens through plant clinics, presentations, and school and community gardens.

The UF/IFAS Florida Master Gardener Volunteer Program is a citizen-driven program that benefits UF/IFAS Extension and Floridians. The program relies on dedicated who have an interest in gardening and in giving back to their communities.

  • In 2023, Florida Master Gardener Volunteers donated nearly $10 million worth of time to the citizens of Florida ($9,987,636).
  • There are 535 new Master Gardener Volunteers (MGVs). Counties provide training to new MGVs annually.
  • There are 3,359 Master Gardener Volunteers in 58 of Florida’s 67 counties.
  • Counties provided 38,188 hours in continuing education to MGVs in 2023. Each volunteer receives a minimum of 10 hours of education annually.
  • Master Gardener Volunteers served 189,000 clientele through plant clinics, presentations, and school and community gardens.
