Canna (Canna x generalis)

Cannas are erect, herbaceous perennials with thick branching rhizomes, growing three to five feet in height. Simple leaves are alternate to spirally arranged, and one to three feet long. They are ovate to lanceolate in shape, often with prominent veins, and can be solid green or colorfully striped. Irregularly shaped yellow to orange to red flowers are borne in spikes. The fruit is inconspicuous and not showy.
