Beautyberry (Callicarpa americana)

Beautyberry is a deciduous, rounded, shrub that measures six to eight feet tall. It has many spreading branches. The leaves are ovate, simple, and opposite. They are usually three to seven inches long and one to three inches wide. Both leaf surfaces are covered with short hairs and the leaf margins are serrate. Inconspicuous lavender flowers appear in the spring. The fruit is a fleshy, round drupe about 1/8 inch wide and is purple to violet, or rarely white. The small fruits occur in dense clusters that surround the stem.
