California Trip — Fall 2007
In October 2007, we headed out west to California, spending time in San Francisco, Yosemite, and Napa Valley. You can view the itinerary below, or download a flyer for the trip (PDF 313kb).
October 9 – San Francisco/Yosemite
- Arrive in San Francisco
- Travel to Yosemite National Park and check in at Yosemite Lodge at the Falls
October 10 – Yosemite
- Half-day tour along Glacier Point Road with breathtaking views of the High Sierras and Yosemite Valley
- Half-day tour of Mariposa Grove to learn about giant sequoias
- Dinner at the lodge's Mountain Room with outstanding views of Yosemite Falls
October 11 – Yosemite/San Francisco
- Brunch and tour of the Estate by the Elderberries
- Travel to San Francisco and brief bus tour of the city
- Check in at Holiday Inn Express Fisherman's Wharf
October 12 – San Francisco
- Visit San Francisco Flower Market
- Explore Golden Gate Park, which includes a formal Japanese garden, an expansive arboretum, and museums
October 13 – San Francisco/Muir Woods
- Visit to Alcatraz Island, the famous former prison that housed Al Capone
- Travel to Muir Woods, the only old-growth redwood forest in the Bay Area and one of the last on the planet
October 14 – Punta Leona
- Visit the gardens of Filoli Estate, one of the finest remaining country estates of the early 20th centruy
- Scenic drive along the Pacific coastline
October 15 – Berkeley
- Explore the University of California at Berkeley Botanic Garden's world-class collection of plants
- Spend time at a school or a community garden
October 16 – Davis/Napa Valley
- Travel to the University of California at Davis Arboretum
- Continue on to the Napa Valley for a tour and tasting at the Robert Mondavi Winery
- Dinner at the Culinary Institute of America
October 17 – San Francisco/Florida
- Return to Florida
