Meet Kathy Malone

Kathy Malone is the statewide builder and developer coordinator for Florida-Friendly Landscaping, a Florida Yards & Neighborhoods program at UF/IFAS. Kathy has a bachelor’s in journalism with a minor in environmental science from UF and a master’s in education from Palm Beach Atlantic University.

Along with her family, Kathy moved to Gainesville in 2004, when she worked with the Florida Museum of Natural History on development of a national 4-H curriculum, "Project Butterfly WINGS."

Kathy previously worked at the South Florida Water Management District for 18 years, four of which were in the Land Stewardship Division, where she wrote the District’s award-winning public lands recreational guide. Prior to the water management district, Kathy began her career at the Department of Environmental Regulation, now DEP.

An avid butterfly-watcher and photographer, Kathy has founded two Florida chapters of the North American Butterfly Association and conducts surveys of butterflies as a volunteer for the Florida Natural Areas Inventory.
