Susan League Recognized by FNGLA

Outstanding Educator: Susan League, FCHP | UF/IFAS Sumter County Extension (Bushnell, FL)

Former Master Gardener with Sumter County Susan League was recognized as Outstanding Educator for 2017 by the Florida Nurseries Growers and Landscaping Association (FNGLA) at their Industry Awards in June. The award is presented to an individual who is actively involved with the teaching of horticulture.

Susan was recognized for her efforts at Coleman Federal Prison. Susan came out of retirement to accept the challenging task of educating federal prison inmates in horticulture job skills. The focus of the program is training for the FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional exam; her superior teaching skills are evident in the over 90% passing rate. The program is making a difference in the lives of her students due in large part to Susan’s dedication and commitment in teaching this unique audience.

"Susan does a stellar job and she was an outstanding Master Gardener," say Jim Davis, the Extension director for UF/IFAS Extension Sumter County and Hernando County.

Susan is FCHP and GI-BMP certified and also the winner of the Personal Communications award at the 2013 MG State Conference.

FNGLA’s Industry Awards Program acknowledges both FNGLA and industry service, with varying criteria geared for each award. FNGLA takes time at its annual convention to honor those individuals who have demonstrated dedication and service to FNGLA and the nursery and landscape industry. Winners are recognized and honored at FNGLA's Annual Meeting held each June at FNGLA's Annual Convention. Nominations are accepted from the industry-at-large and winners are selected by a committee of industry peers.
