Sudden Oak Death

Sudden Oak Death (SOD) is a disease that has resulted in widespread dieback of several tree species in California and Oregon forests. In 2004, SOD was found in Florida on a few nursery plants that were shipped from California. Shipments were quickly stopped, as well as sales in retail nurseries of plants that had already come from the California nursery. There is little cause for alarm, however— the pathogen that causes Sudden Oak Death appears to only grow in cool, moist conditions.
