Outdoor Christmas Lights

Outdoor Christmas lights can add sparkle to your yard during the holidays, but it's always important to use them safely.

Purchase lights that have been tested and approved by an independent safety laboratory. Approved lights will feature a small sticker somewhere along the cord.

Whenever possible, plug outdoor lights into a three-prong grounded outlet that is protected by what's known as a "GFCI," a ground fault circuit interrupter. These special outlets can help prevent electrical accidents.

Don't plug more than three standard-sized sets of lights into a single extension cord, and never string together more lights than the manufacturer recommends.

Follow these guidelines, and you'll have a festive and safe holiday season!
